Envisioning partnered with Nestlé Product and Technology Centers (NPTCs) to create a radar that surveyed internal knowledge and identified new opportunities within the food tech space. The radar’s primary function was to gather insights from stakeholders across different teams, providing a comprehensive understanding of familiarity, relevance, and degree of development for various food technologies.

This internal tool was designed to assist decision-making by prioritizing technologies that held the most promise for future development. By comparing our external research with Nestlé’s internal preparedness, the radar outlined where the company stood in relation to emerging trends and identified areas where new opportunities could be seized. This project offered a holistic picture of the current food tech landscape, guiding Nestlé in identifying and evaluating opportunity spaces that could shape their product innovation strategies.

We began the project by selecting 50 existing food-related technologies from our database to serve as the foundation for the radar. The focus was on evaluating stakeholder familiarity with these technologies, rather than discovering new ones. Through this process, we helped Nestlé identify opportunity spaces that could give them a competitive edge in food innovation.

We developed custom metrics for the radar, using a survey-based approach to gather data from internal stakeholders. The metrics included key measurements such as familiarity, relevance, and degree of development for each technology. The survey results highlighted the most impactful technologies across all metrics, allowing Nestlé to prioritize its innovation efforts around the most promising opportunities.
