WKO Innovation Map

In partnership with WKO, we played a pivotal role in creating a comprehensive technology radar that mapped 105 key technology signals. This initiative was designed to help WKO’s 500,000 business clients stay ahead of technological trends and equip the Austrian business ecosystem with strategic insights for future decision-making.

The radar integrates extensive academic and expert feedback, offering a 360º scan of emerging technologies. The primary objective was to increase understanding of the underpinning technologies driving innovation while improving resilience to future shifts triggered by technological advancements. By analyzing these technologies based on their readiness levels, WKO can promote their widespread adoption and ensure proper assessment.

We provided Austrian businesses with insights into emerging technologies and interactive visualization tools, guiding WKO’s partners toward strategic innovation investments and helping future-proof the Austrian business landscape. The radar facilitated innovation by disclosing detailed data on upcoming technological developments and promoting sustainable practices, all while showcasing technologies likely to shape the future by 2035.

Major developments in Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, IoT, Computing, Robotics, and Extended Reality were evaluated. Each technology was categorized according to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and grouped into clusters representing key areas of interest for WKO. This initiative not only supports WKO’s mission but also empowers Austrian businesses to integrate sustainability with technological growth. The radar has become an invaluable tool for envisioning future pathways and continually adapting to society's fast-paced changes.

Our Work

  • Curated 105 technology signals to support 500,000 Austrian business clients.
  • Delivered a 360º scan of emerging technologies.
  • Ensured agile delivery, leveraging research from our technology database.
  • Incorporated expert and academic feedback, ensuring relevance and depth.

Impact

  • Bilingual radar in German and English for local and global audiences.
  • Promoted content through global events such as the Web Summit and SxSW.
  • Focused on SDG alignment, promoting sustainable decision-making across the Austrian business ecosystem.
  • WKO produced a variety of printed and digital materials based on our research and content, further promoting the radar.

The technology research focused on creating clusters around five high-level categories representing the Austrian economy. Leveraging our existing database, WKO was able to move from briefing to publication in just a few months, ensuring an agile response to market needs. The radar’s content is regularly updated, incorporating crowdsourced reviews and insights from academic experts, ensuring it remains relevant and valuable for Austrian businesses. Beyond the Technology Readiness Level (TRL), the research was strongly aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), positioning sustainability as a cornerstone of innovation.

To cater to the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), we enabled a bilingual platform, engaging both German-speaking and international audiences. This translation model was crucial for extending WKO’s reach while maintaining clarity and accessibility for all stakeholders.

Based on our research and content, WKO produced a variety of materials to extend the radar's impact beyond digital screens. This included booklets in both English and German, custom postcards illustrating each of the 105 technologies, and posters distributed to WKO’s extensive network of business clients. The radar was also showcased at prestigious global events such as the Web Summit in Lisbon and SxSW in Austin, featuring an interactive display at WKO’s booth. In addition to in-person engagements, the radar was promoted through digital marketing channels like newsletters, paid ads, and other promotional activities, significantly amplifying its visibility and reach.
